In 2010, after working 15 years at the Caterpillar dealership, Norbert Ebel, Jr. ventured out on his own founding Norbert's Equipment Repair, Inc. out of his shop in Fairbanks, Alaska. Not long afterwards a mobile service truck was added and Norbert began traveling throughout Alaska's road system to repair heavy equipment. He also loved traveling to the villages and remote mine sites by plane and helicopter. Everyone always loved his expertise, hard work ethic, perseverance, and cheerful attitude. He was always making people happy with his joy and capability of fixing everything. Jonathan used to say to his dad when he was young, "Dad, you can fix anything except a broken light bulb and a broken potato chip!" And he did. The whole family quickly became part of his new venture, making it into a true family business. During breaks from homeschooling, Norbert and Lori's sons David (16) and Jonathan (12) would run out to the shop to watch their dad and work on projects with him while his wife Lori tried to keep up with the bookkeeping and packing of supplies for contracts out of town. The boys eventually became quite proficient operators but it all started with sitting on their dad's lap in the new skid steer. Norbert always tried to take both the boys on jobs whenever possible.

In 2018 Norbert branched out from servicing equipment, adding general contracting to the company's services and eventually purchased a forestry mulcher. He began taking on various dirt work and land clearing contracts throughout the state in addition to his repair work. When they were older, David and Jonathan helped their dad a lot on contracts out in the villages and other remote sites. Life took a very sad and unfortunate turn in 2021 when Norbert got sick and eventually passed away in February of 2022. Lori began managing the contracts during that hard season and the boys had to finish many of them. In March of 2022, when deciding what to do about the business Lori, David and Jonathan decided to continue the family business and to carry on Norbert's legacy of excellence and integrity in repair and contracting.

They took on and clearing contracts the summers of 2022 and 2023. And they also all went on to receive their certificates from UAF's Diesel/Heavy Equipment program in the spring of 2023. Their family and employees are still eager to serve the Fairbanks area and great state of Alaska with their expertise in repair and contracting, hard work ethic, and with the same cheerful attitude Norbert always gave to all his customers.
